SANDY SPRING, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police say two officers shot and killed an armed man outside a restaurant in Sandy Spring.
Capt. Paul Starks, a police spokesman, says police were called to the Urban Bar-B-Que on Olney Sandy Spring Road about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a man with a gun. Starks says three officers arrived to find a man sitting alone on the patio of the restaurant with his weapon visible.
Police say the man failed to comply with the officers’ verbal commands and two of the officers shot the man. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified.
The two officers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation.
