ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Department of Transportation is lifting HOV restrictions on Interstate 66 inside the Capital Beltway for a second day.
Normally, the highway inside the Beltway is open only to cars with two or more passengers during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
On Tuesday, though, the HOV restrictions eastbound into the District Of Columbia for the morning rush will be lifted, as will the westbound HOV restrictions leaving the District. HOV restrictions were also lifted on Monday.
Officials want to allow more vehicles onto I-66 to compensate for the delays caused by traffic signals that remain without power in the aftermath of Friday’s storm. More than 80 traffic signals in northern Virginia remained without power as of Monday evening.
