Craig Stouffer of the Washington Examiner and Brandon McDonald of DC United joined The Upper 90 Soccer Show this week to discuss the season thus far and Sunday’s rivalry match against the New York Red Bulls.
Stouffer, the United beat reporter for the Examiner, gave his take on DC United, the MLS and the European Championships so far. Craig mentioned that he thought United were poised for a big run, and even deemed them one of his prime contenders to win the MLS Cup.
Craig also discussed his thoughts on how the international break helped this United squad after playing the most games in the MLS before the break. Craig finished up by naming his team MVP to this point in the season, and as luck would have it, he named Brandon McDonald as DC United’s MVP.
Brandon McDonald, United’s starting center back, was humbled to hear the news when we talked to him, and while pleased with the comments from Craig, Brandon made sure to emphasize just how vital his teammates have been to the club’s success this year. McDonald also discussed how his comfort level has been so far this season despite having a revolving door in the back four around him.
Finally, McDonald participated in our “Getting to Know You” segment, answering questions like his favorite movie, food and whether he prefers the East or West coast. McDonald was also asked about his striking resemblance to Simon Phoenix, Wesley Snipes’ character in the movie Demolition Man.
