RIVERDALE, Md. (CBSDC) — A microburst in Prince George’s County has displaced many residents in the Riverdale area.
County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor said it may be hundreds of residents who were displaced.
More than a dozen multi-family buildings suffered significant damage in the storm. At least one single family home was also damaged.
Emergency Management personnel are coordinating housing arrangements for the displaced victims.
A microburst differs from a tornado in that it is highly localized. It is defined as a violent short-lived localized downdraft that creates extremely strong wind at low altitudes.
