The Capitals selected forward Filip Forsberg (11th overall) and forward Tom Wilson (16th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Forsberg, 17, is 6’1″, 188 pounds and is currently playing in Sweden. He is from Sweden and could join Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson as Swedish born players on the Capitals. Forsberg was ranked by NHL Central Scouting Bureau, ran by the NHL, as the top European prospect in the 2012 NHL Draft. For the Swedish U20 team, Forsberg had five goals and four assists in 11 games.
“Of course it’s a big honor to get to go to the Washington Capitals, and to be part of their great organization,” Forsberg said. “Yeah, I’m really looking forward to it.”
Forsberg will be playing at least one more year in Sweden to finish his contract.
Wilson, 18, is 6’4″, 200 pounds, and brings a real toughness to his game. He has played the last two seasons with the Plymouth Whalers and had nine goals, 18 assists and 141 penalty minutes in 49 regular season games last season. Wilson had seven goals, six assists and 39 penalty minutes in 13 playoff games for the Whalers last year.
“I’m thrilled. Never been to Washington. Really looking forward to it. I’ve heard it’s a great city,” Wilson said. “They got a great pick in Forsberg.So, I’m really looking forward to going to camp and getting to know the organization.”
