RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gov. Bob McDonnell will honor six law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2011.

The annual memorial service will be held Thursday at the Virginia Department of Transportation Auditorium in Richmond.

The governor will honor Virginia Tech Police Officer Deriek Crouse, who was gunned down on campus in December by a part-time Radford University student. Investigators still have not identified a motive for the attack by 22-year-old Ross Truett Ashley, who later shot himself.

Buchanan County Sheriff’s deputies C. Neil Justus and William Stiltner also will be honored. They were shot and killed while coming to the aid of their fellow deputies, who had been fired upon by a sniper at the scene of a crime in March.

Also honored will be Alexandria Police Sgt. M.M. “Morty” Ford, who died in June after contracting Hepatitis C during a blood transfusion after being shot in the line of duty in November 1974; Virginia State Police Trooper Adam Bowen, who was killed when his patrol car was involved in a collision while responding to a call in King George County in June; and Chesapeake Police Officer Timothy Schock, who died during a training dive.
