WASHINGTON (AP) — A District of Columbia man charged with killing his wife inside their Georgetown row home is due in court.
Albrecht Muth is awaiting trial in the August killing of his wife, Viola Drath, a 91-year-old German journalist and socialite.
He’s due in Superior Court on Thursday morning, though the murder case has been on hold because of concerns about his mental health.
Doctors who evaluated Muth this week say they consider him incompetent to stand trial. But they say he can likely attain competency through time and continued treatment.
Muth has claimed to be a brigadier general with the Iraqi Army and has suggested his wife was killed in an Iranian hit job. Prosecutors say those claims are bogus.
