WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — The Washington Wizards have acquired Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza from the New Orleans Hornets.
In exchange, the Hornets will received forward Rashard Lewis and the No. 46 overall pick in this year’s draft.
Okafor, a 29-year-old center, was originally selected with the second overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats where he played until 2009 when he was traded to New Orleans.
He averaged 28.9 minutes, 9.9 points and 7.9 rebounds in 27 games last season. He is expected to bolster Washington’s front court with Nene.
Ariza, a 26-year-old small forward, has bounced around the league since being selected by the New York Knicks with the 43rd overall pick out of UCLA in 2004. His career has also included stints with the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.
He appeared in 41 games, averaging 32.9 minutes and 10.8 points per game last year.
Lewis, meanwhile, appeared in 28 games with 15 starts for the Wizards last season where he averaged 26 minutes and 7.8 points per game.
