The Washington Wizards managed to steal a few headlines away from the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday when they traded Rashard Lewis and the No. 46 overall pick in next week’s draft to the New Orleans Hornets for Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza.
Yahoo! Sports columnist Dan Devine and Kyle Weidie from TruthAboutIt.net told 106.7 The Fan’s LaVar Arrington and Chad Dukes they feel the deal was largely a win-win for both franchises.
Bringing aboard a pair of veterans to a largely youth-infused Wizards roster could signal a change in thinking in the front office.
”[This is] perhaps Grunfeld learning some lessons that he needs to do a better job balancing some veterans who know the game and are good character guys with the youth movement of this team,” said Weidie.
He also feels the team now has honest playoff aspirations.
Devine isn’t necessarily ready to hop aboard that bandwagon.
“It makes the Wizards a more professional on-court team that is very clearly built around John Wall,” he said. ”But I’m not sure the ceiling is any higher than a lower tier of an Eastern Conference playoff seed.”
