Murder Suspect Derrick Babb Arrested Following Standoff With Police In DC

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — A police standoff that began after a man was shot in southeast Washington has ended with a suspect in custody.

Police say the victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest in the 1700 block of 17th Street about 2 a.m. Wednesday. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A SWAT team, that included an armored vehicle, had been stationed outside the home and several streets in the area were closed during the standoff.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old J’Ron Lamar Brown of Washington. The suspect, 23-year-old Derrick Babb of Washington, was charged with second-degree murder while armed.
