SILVER SPRING, Md. (CBSDC) — Authorities are attempting to identify the suspect in an attempted carjacking that occurred at a 7-Eleven store in Silver Spring recently.

Police say an unknown suspect approached a man attempting to enter his vehicle at the convenience store at 9254 New Hampshire Ave. around 11:30 p.m. on June 14. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the man give him the keys to the car. The victim complied with the request, but the suspect had difficulty starting the vehicle and ultimately fled the scene on foot.

Police released a photo of the suspect in the 7-Eleven prior to the attempted carjacking.

The man is described as roughly 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 in height and 180 to 200 pounds. He reportedly had a tattoo of lines on his right arm as well as another tattoo on his neck. He was wearing a red hat, black shirt and jeans at the time of the incident.

A cash reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact Montgomery County Police at 240-773-5100.
