WESTMINSTER, Md. (CBSDC) — A 64-year-old Rockville man died Friday morning when the plane he was piloting crashed at Carroll County Regional Airport.
Authorities say the man was the only person aboard the plane when it crashed near the end of a runway around 10:30 a.m.
According to WJZ in Baltimore, the plane split into pieces when it crashed. The weather was clear and winds were minimal at the time the plane went down.
First responders were able to free the man from the wreckage, but he died en route to the hospital.
Maryland State Police said the pilot was apparently experiencing some mechanical troubles before the crash. Police investigators are working with the National Transportation Safety Board to determine what exactly caused the crash.
The ill-fated plane was a 2009 Remos GX Aviator 2.
