Mike Wise: Wizards Coach Encouraged By 2012 Draft Crop
WASHINGTON (CBSDC) —Washington Wizards head coach Randy Wittman joined The Mike Wise Show Thursday to talk everything Wizards, including the upcoming NBA Draft.
With the Wizards No. 3 pick, Chris Johnson asked Wittman about the June 28 draft, and draft picks Bradley Beal of Florida and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist of Kentucky.
“The one thing that’s really, really impressed me through this process is the quality of the individuals,” Wittman said. “These kids are very high quality … whoever we get they’re going to be able to play.”
Wittman also said Beal and Kidd-Glichrist are different players in many respects, but are both unbelievable athletes.
“We gotta continue to get better talent,” Wittman said.
Mike Wise asked about Wittman’s recent experiences coaching this season.
“It’s not a popularity contest, the basic thing I try to do is be fair, be upfront, and put [the players] in the positions they can succeed at,” Wittman said. “That’s just how I am.”
Former Wizards coach Flip Saunders was fired earlier this year after their 2-15 start. The Wizards then went 18-31 with Wittman as head coach, including closing out the season winning seven of their final 10 games.
“I thought we ended on a very positive note,” Wittman said.
