CHANTILLY, Va. (CBSDC) — A special education teacher at Poplar Tree Elementary School in Chantilly was arrested on child pornography charges this week.

Police charged 26-year-old Robert C. Fenn, of the 3000 block of Emerald Chase Drive in Herndon, with 10 counts of possession of child pornography on Tuesday.

He was taken into custody at the school.

Fenn’s arrest was the culmination of a week-long joint investigation with members of the Fairfax County Police Department Child Exploitation Unit and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents.

Authorities do not believe any children at the school were involved in the investigation. They also do not believe Fenn used any school computers to view the images.

Fenn, who was hired by the school system last summer, has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

The school’s principal sent a note home with students on Wednesday apprising parents of the arrest.

“I think the reaction was one of dismay,” said John Torre, an official with Fairfax County Public Schools. “But, I do believe the principal and the staff are determined not to let this be a distraction in the final days of the school year.”
