MCLEAN, Va. (CBSDC) — A stabbing at a psychiatric care facility near Tysons Corner left one patient dead and another charged with his murder Thursday morning.
Fairfax County Police say Mark Shelor stabbed 57-year-old Grady Alexander Vickers following an encounter outside Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (PRS), located at 1761 Old Meadow Rd, around 9:30 a.m.
When police arrived, staff members from the facility led them to Vickers, who lived in Falls Church. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
It is unclear what prompted the stabbing.
The 24-year-old Shelor, who lives in the 9700 block of Maple Trace Circle, remained on the scene and was taken into custody by police. He was subsequently charged with murder.
Shelor was also a patient at the facility.
Both men were diagnosed with schizophrenia according to ABC 7.
The Fairfax/Falls Church Community Services Board contracts with PRS to provide day support services for adults with mental illness.
