MANASSAS, Va. (CBSDC) — Two people from Manassas were arrested for child abuse after a 6-year-old boy was reportedly struck in the face.

Police arrested Oscar Alfonso Vasquez Salguero and Leticia Martinez, both 27, following an investigation last week.

Authorities say Vasquez Salguero struck the child in the face and Martinez was aware of the incident but failed to report it police.

The child, who is a relative of the suspects, sustained minor injuries in the assault and is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Both suspects resided in the 8600 block of Newton Pl. in Manassas.

Vasquez Salguero has been charged with cruelty and injuries to children. His bond information was not immediately available.

Martinez has been charged with cruelty and injuries to children and was released on $5,000 secured bond.
