WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Police say 28-year-old Amber Kent died after she was stabbed in the back by another woman inside an apartment in Congress Heights.

Kent was was stabbed repeatedly and died after being taken to a nearby hospital. Her young daughter was inside the apartment at the time of the stabbing.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Monday in an apartment building located in the 3400 block of 13th Place SE.

31-year-old Cydrisse Alvin was arrested for the killing Monday afternoon.

Alvin was taken into custody at Malcolm X Elementary School where here daughter is a student. A number of police were posted at the school in case she arrived.

Alvin, who lived on the same floor in the apartment building as the victim, was under the influence of PCP at the time of the attack and was upset that Kent wanted to end their friendship according to ABC 7.

The building had multiple security cameras outside the building, one of which is monitored by DC Police.

A police truck has been parked outside the apartment building for weeks, but was not a deterrent for Alvin.

Following her death, Kent’s boyfriend attacked the father of Alvin’s daughter and was subsequently arrested at the apartment building.

Officially, police are saying the motive for the slaying is not yet clear.
