TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (CBSDC) — Firefighters in Prince George’s County discovered a dead body while battling flames inside a home in Temple Hills on Wednesday.

Around 5:20 p.m. police were dispatched to the 5300 block of Lorraine Dr. for a report of a husband attacking his wife. The husband ran back into the home and the flames began a short time later.

Dispatchers cautioned the firefighters they had also received reports of gunshots being fired at the location. Police advised firefighters en route to the home to hold roughly one block away so they could secure the scene.

After a sweep of the area, police allowed firefighters to proceed to the location.

When they arrived, the fire in the two-story home was spreading rapidly and additional personnel and equipment were called to the scene.

While battling the flames inside the home firefighters discovered the body of the husband suffering from a gunshot wound.

A preliminary investigation by Prince George’s County Police indicates the fatal wound was self-inflicted. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

No other injuries were reported in the fire.

Authorities found multiple locations inside the home where the fire may have been started and say the blaze appears to be suspicious.

The home suffered significant damage in the fire. Adjacent dwellings also sustained damage when they were singed by the flames.
