7-Horse Pileup At Rosecroft Raceway Sends Three To Hospital

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (CBSDC) – An incident is being reported at Rosecroft Raceway involving the wreck of multiple horses during a harness race, hospitalizing multiple people.

Sources say a seven-horse collision occurred at the Fort Washington racetrack in the 5th race, which sent three drivers to a local hospital. A Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesperson said the incident occurred around 8 p.m.

A medevac helicopter was called to Rosecroft Raceway sources say, to transport driver Donnie Russell to a nearby hospital. William Carter and Justin Hite were also injured in the wreck and were taken to a local hospital.

The accident was apparently caused when the first-place horse went down and most of the field piled on top.

No injuries to horses have been reported at this time.

WNEW will have further details on the collision as they become available.
