NEW YORK (CBSDC) — Former Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry did not join his New York Jets teammates for the start of their OTA’s this week.

A troublesome Achilles tendon sidelined Landry for seven games in 2010 and half of 2011 — his final two years in Washington.

Following the injury, the former first-round pick from LSU largely lacked his hard-hitting, “throw caution to the wind” style of play that earned him the moniker Dirty 30.

Landry chose not to undergo surgery to repair the mircrotears in the tendon, opting instead for platelet-rich plasma treatments.

It is unclear whether Landry’s absence from the Jets voluntary OTAs is related to the lingering injury.

Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger, who first reported news of Landry skipping the workouts, points out the safety said he planned to participate in OTAs and mini-camp “as much as possible.”

Landry signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Jets after the Redskins passed on re-signing him.
