WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Former District of Columbia Mayor and current Councilmember Marion Barry has been hospitalized in Las Vegas.

Barry’s chief of staff told The Associated Press on Monday morning that the councilmember is “resting comfortably” and is expected to make a full recovery.

The 76-year-old Barry told WRC-TV that he developed a blood clot. The councilmember also mentioned the clot on his Twitter account Sunday night, saying it developed while he was waiting on a plane in Memphis on the way to Las Vegas. He told WRC that it had “no impact” on his “physical feeling or mental ability.”

Barry, Mayor Vincent Gray and several other council members are in Las Vegas for the International Council of Shopping Centers’ annual convention.

Marion Barry’s personal motto displayed on the District of Columbia’s City Council website is “always fighting for the people.”
