WALDORF, Md. (CBSDC) — A 6-year-old boy was struck and killed by a SUV in Waldorf, Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. in the 10500 block of Sugarberry Street.
Authorities say the child’s mother pulled over to the side of the road and exited the vehicle in order to give a letter to a mail carrier in their neighborhood.
Unbeknownst to her, the child unbuckled himself from his seat in the rear of the car and also exited the vehicle. He was then struck by an SUV.
“The driver of the SUV had no time to react,” said Charles County Police spokesperson Diane Richardson.
Richardson added police do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the crash.
The driver of the SUV stayed on the scene of the accident.
