WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — After testing the free agency waters, running back Tim Hightower announced he would be returning to the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

The 25-year-old University of Richmond product announced his decision on Twitter.

Washington’s backfield is shaping up to have decent depth with his return. Evan Royster and Roy Helu proved more than capable of carrying the load last season after Hightower suffered a season-ending ACL tear against the Carolina Panthers.

In five starts, he carried the ball 84 times for 321 yards and a touchdown.

Hightower, who was an unrestricted free agent, also visited with the New England Patriots last month.

With his return, running back will be one of the more competitive positions at training camp this season. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

The Redskins acquired Hightower from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for defensive end Vonnie Holliday and a sixth-round draft pick.
