ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — Make no mistake about it, Adam Carriker is excited about the direction the Washington Redskins are heading.
The defensive end, who signed re-signed with the team for another four years this offseason, is chomping at the bit for the 2012 season to start.
“I’m extremely excited,” Carriker said on his pro wrestling podcast, 4th & Pain.
Asked specifically what players he wanted to see shine this season, the Cornhusker took the team approach.
“Who do I want to see shine? I want to see everybody shine,” Carriker said. “I want to see the receivers, I want to see RGIII shine, I want to see everybody shine. . . the guys who are running on defense, our safeties.”
Like every other player, coach and fan of the Redskins, Carriker is hoping for big things from this year’s second-overall draft pick Robert Griffin III.
Over the weekend, head coach Mike Shanahan anointed the Heisman Trophy winner as the team’s starting quarterback, erasing any debate before it could begin. Being not just the starter, but the face of the franchise can lead to a lot of scrutiny and pressure.
However, Carriker seems to think Griffin is off to a good start.
“Obviously all eyes will be on the quarterback position, which is the norm and to be expected in this league,” he said. “From what I understand, he looked very good in the rookie minicamp this past weekend. Hopefully everyone comes in and contributes very well.”
