WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — The Washington Redskins signed their third of nine draft picks on Saturday, finalizing a deal with fifth round selection Adam Gettis.

The guard from Iowa joins his college teammate safety Jordan Bernstine and SMU cornerback Richard Crawford who signed their inaugural NFL contracts on Friday.

Gettis signed his contract on Saturday, the second day of the rookie minicamp at Redskins Park in Ashburn.

The youngster is hoping to have an easy transition to the Redskins zone blocking scheme. He called himself a “perfect fit” for it, having played in a similar scheme for the Hawkeyes.

“He’s got the quickness we look for, kind of like Kory Lichtensteiger,” head coach Mike Shanahan said recently of Gettis. “You know, he can play center or the guard position. He’s got speed. You can never have enough depth in that offensive line.”
