WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling a fire in Columbia Heights on Friday.
D.C. fire officials confirmed the two-alarm blaze occurred in a three-story residential building located 1327 Girard Street in Northwest.
All firefighters were ordered out of the building at one point as the flames made fighting the fire from inside increasingly unsafe.
The home belonged to D.C. activist Dorothy Brizill and her husband Gary Imhoff. Brizill was taken to a local hospital following a spike in blood pressure attributed to the stress of the situation, according to NBC 4′s Jackie Bensen.
Mayor Vincent Gray arrived at the location to offer his support to the couple.
