New York Rangers analyst Joe Micheletti from MSG Network joined “The Sports Junkies” to offer the opposing team’s viewpoint on the Caps/Rangers series, which is tied 1-1.

“The offensive teams in the West all got eliminated and so I think that’s why we are seeing the Capitals win.  They’re giving themselves a chance because they are playing good defensive hockey and as of right now, I don’t think Alexander Ovechkin’s play without the puck warrants more ice time, ” Micheletti said.

What helps coach Dale Hunter’s system is that the team is winning, and the players believe what he’s doing in terms of limiting his minutes, will be successful.

Ultimately, Micheletti thinks Ovi’s play without the puck will earn him more time on the ice.  Doing the little things like playing better defensively, not taking penalties or turning the puck over.

He also adds that he is impressed in how professionally Ovechkin has handled his diminished role so far in the playoffs.
