SILVER SPRING, Md. (CBSDC) — One firefighter suffered serious injuries while battling a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Montgomery County Tuesday afternoon.
Montgomery County Firefighters responded to the garden style apartments located in the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in the Lyttonsville section of Silver Spring around 2:15 p.m.
The blaze began in the common attic area of one of the apartments and quickly spread to neighboring buildings.
A decision was made for firefighters to evacuate the blaze once it jumped from two to three alarms. The squad then went into an exterior attack mode to continue battling the flames.
Montgomery County Fire Captain Scott Graham said no civilians were injured, but approximately 20 units at the complex had been destroyed or impacted by the flames.
The injured firefighter was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Fire officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
