WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Sentencing has been postponed for a Naval Academy midshipman found guilty in a court martial of having wrongful sexual contact with a former classmate.

Midshipman 1st Class Matthew Cook was to have been sentenced Saturday, a day after a military jury returned a mixed verdict against him. But Naval Academy spokesman William Marks says the sentencing was postponed until next week.

Cook was found not guilty of a more serious charge of sexual assault.

A female Ensign alleged she was sexually assaulted by Cook in her dorm room after an August 2010 night of drinking in Newport, R.I., where midshipmen were serving at the Naval Academy Preparatory School – the Navy’s 4th oldest school.

The Capital of Annapolis reports that Cook’s lawyer says the accuser had inconsistencies in her story.
