Reeco Richardson, Lone Survivor Of Fatal Stolen Car Crash, Charged By Police
CHEVY CHASE, Md. (CBSDC) — Montgomery County Police have charged Reeco Richardson in connection with a police chase of a stolen vehicle that ended in a fatal crash in Chevy Chase last month.
The 18-year-old Richardson was the lone survivor of the crash which claimed the lives of three others in the stolen car.
Richardson, of the 6000 block of Sligo Mill Road, NE in Washington, was charged with the unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft over $1,000 to under $10,000, unauthorized removal of property and rogue and vagabond.
He was released on his own recognizance following processing.
Richardson was one of four men in the stolen vehicle involved in the early morning chase on March 23.
Authorities say they ran the tag of the Toyota Echo and attempted to stop the vehicle after it came back as stolen. However, the car then took off on southbound Connecticut Avenue. When the car entered Chevy Chase Circle, it struck a tree and became engulfed in flames.
Officers tried to combat the flames with fire extinguishers and were able to pull 16-year-old Reymard Osman and Richardson from the vehicle. However, as they tried to remove 16-year-old Emanuel Nelson and 14-year-old Tyree Nelson, both of the 800 block of Longfellow Street, NW in Washington, DC, the car became completely engulfed in flames, forcing them to abandon life-saving efforts.
Osman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.
