LA PLATA, Md. (AP) — The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says an unidentified person has been shot and killed on a street in La Plata.

Diane Richardson, a police spokeswoman, says sheriff’s officers were patrolling an area of Charles Street when they heard gunshots about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday. Officers searched the area and found the person in the road in the 200 block of Kent Avenue.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s gender and age were not released.
