In a cold, damp April evening in Washington, the Montreal Impact came to RFK and showed that they don’t want to be considered just an expansion team. The Impact came out much more ready to play than DC United. Considering that United was coming off a great road victory on Saturday they failed to get a real feel of the game as they tie with the Impact 1-1 Wednesday night.
Both teams played to a scoreless draw up until the 68th minute when Bernardo Corradi was lurking in the back post and was able to connect on a header from a perfect cross from Neagle giving the Impact the lead. Montreal had a great chance to make it 2-0 minutes later but a shot from Corradi went inches wide of Willis’s right post. But DC United responded with a great play from Maicon Santos where he was able to cut with the ball inside towards the middle of the pitch and where he was than able to put a low driven show past Ricketts equalizing the game at 1.
United thought they had taken the lead in the 90th minutes when Santos tucked a ball past Ricketts but it was waved off as Santos was called for being offside. That is how the game ended with both teams splitting the points. DC United now has 9 points and has 2 more games left in this home stand which will continue versus the New York Red Bulls on Sunday at 6 at RFK.
