The Washington Capitals held an optional skate today one day after evening up the series at one game a piece after their 2-1 double overtime win over the Boston Bruins.  Of the players who played last night, only Jason Chimera took part in the skate.  Chimera played 13:55 last night.

The other Caps who took part in the optional skate were Eakin, Sabourin, Orlov, Sjogren, Neuvirth, Knuble, Erskine, Halpern.

Capitals Head Coach Dale Hunter had no update on goalie Michal Neuvirth.  Neuvirth did take shots from players today, but still hasn’t been healthy enough to back up Braden Holtby since getting injured April 5th.

Hunter had some very good things to say about the rookie Braden Holtby, who has stopped 72 of the 74 shots he’s seen in his first two NHL playoff games, today.

“Holtsy’s our goalie,”  Hunter said on if Holtby will stay in net once Neuvirth is healthy.

Hunter added, “Holtsy’s been good for us. I love both goaltenders [Holtby & Neuvirth], you can tell by the scores, they’ve been making big saves.”

Veteran goalie Tomas Vokoun is still not skating as he recovers from a groin injury.

“He’s not skating yet,”  Hunter would only say on Vokoun.

Mike Green, who played a team high 33:28 last night, only has one point since his return from a groin injury, but is feeling healthy for the first time in a while.

“Probably the best I’ve felt in two years,” Green said.

Green has been paired with Roman Hamrlik and has been playing some of the best defensive hockey he’s played in his career.

“He’s playing well for us,”  Hunter said.  “He’s moving the puck up and it’s tight hockey out there. We need him to play good defense and the offense always come.”

The Caps will have a morning skate tomorrow before they host the Boston Bruins at 7:30pm in game 3 of the NHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
