ANNAPOLIS, Md. (CBSDC) – The Maryland State Highway Administration is begging a project which will require nighttime lane closures and two Saturday daytime closures on US-50 (John Hanson Highway) starting Saturday, April 14.
The SHA announced the project is a $3.8 million safety and resurfacing project between the D.C. line and the Columbia Park Road interchange in Cheverly.
On Saturday, April 14 motorists will encounter single lane closures on eastbound US-50 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Also, beginning Monday, April 16 nighttime eastbound and westbound single lane closures will take place Sunday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists are advised to add extra time to their travel schedules in anticipation of delays within the two-mile work zone. The entire project is expected to be complete by late fall, weather permitting.
Nearly 83,000 vehicles us this section of US-50 each day, a stretch of road that hasn’t been resurfaced since 1995.
The SHA warns drivers to “actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes” while crews work to keep zones safe. Look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. The best way to stay alert is to slow down and not follow too closely to the car in front of you.
