Fairfax County Shortens Academic Year

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Students in Fairfax County will be starting their summer vacation earlier than expected this year.

The Fairfax County School Board approved a change to the academic calendar on Thursday because it has used only one of its weather-related makeup days. The last day of school for students will now be June 15, instead of June 19.

The change means that teachers will have two extra workdays.

The board says that the schedule could change again in the case of an emergency.
