Last week Brooks Laich told the Sports Junkies the Washington Capitals would make the playoffs. On Wednesday morning he offered no such guarantees for their first-round series against the Boston Bruins.

“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me,” Laich playfully joked when the Junkies asked if he had any predictions the series.

“I say a little comment on the radio and next thing I know, I show up to the rink and I got a massive scrum of media in my face,” he added.

Laich doesn’t intend to make headlines this round.

“You never make those sorts of things so wild, wacky and blatant that they are going to end up in the other teams’ locker room,” he explained. “Our team is confident, we’ve played well. Now it’s the postseason, and now it’s going to go up a level.”
