HAGERSTOWN, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says a female inmate is dead after apparently hanging herself in a jail bathroom.
The agency said Wednesday that deputies found 25-year-old Kristy Jenkins of Hancock hanging by a sheet from a partition at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
She was revived but pronounced dead later at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
The agency says Jenkins was alive and well 30 minutes earlier, when deputies made their rounds.
Authorities say her three cellmates were sleeping and unaware of the suicide attempt.
Jenkins had been jailed Monday for an alleged probation violation stemming from a theft last year. She was being held on $5,000 bond and awaiting trial on other theft charges for an incident last week.
