RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Democrat Tim Kaine has raised $2.2 million in his first-quarter fundraising in his Virginia U.S. Senate race.

The former governor will also report in his filings to the Federal Election Commission later this month that his campaign had $4.4 million on hand at the end of March.

Kaine is the lone Democratic qualifier in a race to keep the seat of Sen. Jim Webb in his party’s hands. Webb said last year he will not seek a second term.

Four Republicans are fighting for the GOP nomination. They are George Allen, who lost the seat to Webb in 2006, Del. Bob Marshall, tea party leader Jamie Radtke and Chesapeake pastor E.W. Jackson.
