WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Pierre Garçon has no regrets about signing with the Washington Redskins weeks before Peyton Manning joined the Denver Broncos.
Garçon, who made a name for himself catching passes from Manning during their time together with the Indianapolis Colts, is anxious to prove he is not a Peyton product.
When speculation began that the Colts would be parting ways with the future Hall of Fame quarterback it was rumored the receiver would be interested in following him to his new destination. Garçon had another idea in mind.
“You always want to play with Peyton, but you don’t want to have your future decided by somebody else,” Garçon told 106.7 The Fan’s Holden Kushner and Danny Rouhier. “You want to control your destiny and your future and hold your future in your hands instead of somebody else’s hands.”
While Manning was sidelined with a neck injury last season, Garçon put together a career year, nearly eclipsing 1,000 yards receiving with catching 70 passes and 6 touchdowns.
He’s hoping the success will carry over into Washington where he felt his skill set was a good fit for Mike Shanahan’s offense.
“I thought it was the best fit for me with the coaches, the play actions and the running plays,” Garçon said when asked why he chose to sign with the Redskins. “And the opportunity to play under coach Shanahan who has done a great job in this the NFL.”
