2nd Grader Struck By Car Near School In DC

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A second grade student was struck by a car near his school Friday afternoon in the District.

The 7-year-old boy was embarking on his Spring Break vacation from Lasalle Backus Education Campus, a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in Ward 4, when he was struck. He was transported to Children’s Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Witnesses say the boy was trying to cross the road to meet friends at a nearby recreation center when the crash occurred. There was no crossing guard on the scene.

Residents in the area, near the Maryland / D.C. border, have been fighting to have speed bumps installed near the school because of the amount of young people in the area.
