WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia police say an officer has shot and killed a 19-year-old man in an exchange of gunfire.
Police say the officer was called to the 800 block of 51st Street in southeast for a report of a drug activity about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities say the officer approached a group of people standing in the area, and that one man brandished a handgun and fired at officers.
Police say the officers fired back, striking the man.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police identified the man as Kevin Bolden.
Authorities say the officers who were involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
