UM Doctors To Discuss First Face Transplant

BALTIMORE (AP) — University of Maryland Medical Center officials are expected to tell the public more about the hospital’s first face transplant.

Physicians are expected to discuss the 36-hour procedure on Tuesday morning at the hospital in Baltimore. Officials also expect to release some details about the 37-year-old American man who underwent the procedure last week.

The transplant, which included the tongue, teeth and upper and lower jaws, is the most extensive performed to date.
