ANNANDALE, Va. (CBSDC) — Fairfax County Police have identified the bodies of the father and daughter involved in an apparent murder-suicide that occurred in Annandale early Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the victims were 40-year-old John Jackson, of 5909 Summers Lane in Falls Church, and his 13-year-old daughter, Alexis Jackson.

A family member discovered their bodies inside a SUV parked in the driveway of a home located in the 3800 block of Forest Grove Drive shortly after 1 a.m. 9NewsNow reports the girl’s mother and grandparents lived at the home where the bodies were discovered.

Police believe the deaths occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. A motive for the murder-suicide is unclear.

Authorities would not speculate as to who pulled the trigger in the case. A medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Jackson was a former sergeant with the Fairfax County Police Department. He left the department in June 2010 after serving 16 years.

Alexis was a 7th grade student at Glasgow Middle School in Alexandria.

Police are continuing to investigate the deaths and ask anyone with information to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at http://www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call police at 703-691-2131.
