Police-Involved Shootout In NW, Suspect In Critical Condition (Photos Included)
WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting involving an officer that occurred in Silver Spring early Friday morning which sent two men to a local hospital, including an officer.
The shooting occurred on the North side of Eastern Avenue around the 8100 block, just inside the District’s boundaries just after midnight. The emergency call center received multiple reports of shots being fired.
When backup arrived, police heard more gunshots and encountered a male suspect and shots were exchanged.
An officer received a hand injury in the process of the heated exchange and was taken to a hospital, but the injury was sustained from something other than a gunshot and is currently being investigated. The officer was treated and released.
The suspect was transported to Med Star Hospital after being shot and remains in critical condition. His identity will be released after confirmation and family members have been notified.
The officers have been placed on administrative leave as standard procedure pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Their identities will be released at a later time as well.
Montgomery County Police are conducting the internal investigations related to the officers’ actions.
