WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — The Foggy Bottom Metro station was closed for about an hour Thursday after a man was fatally struck by an Orange Line train.
Metro officials believe the man, who was in his 50′s, may have intentionally placed himself in front of the inbound train from Rosslyn around 2:12 p.m.
The man was transported to George Washington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“By all indications, including camera footage, it appears intentional,” a Metro official told All-News 99.1 WNEW.
Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity until next of kin are notified.
Normal service was restored to the Blue and Orange Lines around 3:45 p.m.
Thursday’s incident marks the second intentional fatality of the year on according to officials. There have been two other attempts where the victim survived.
In 2011, there were four confirmed intentional fatalities and four other attempts where the victim survived.
