The Capitals held a full practice today a day after their 5-0 home shutout loss to the New Jersey Devils. Goalie Tomas Vokoun and forward Brooks Laich both missed practice, Vokoun is day-to-day with a lower body injury while Laich took a “maintenance day”.
Caps Director of Media Relations Sergey Kocharov stood in as the other goaltender for practice along with Michal Neuvirth. Capitals Head Coach Dale Hunter said they would decide tomorrow if they need to recall someone from AHL Hershey, likely Braden Holtby, and added that Vokoun’s injury happened in warm-ups.
The Caps forward lines today looked like: Ovechkin-Johansson-Brouwer, Chimera-Perreault-Semin, Knuble-Aucoin-Hendricks, Beagle-Halpern-Ward. All eight healthy defenseman practiced.
Yesterday the Caps gave up their fourth shorthanded goal in their last ten games and Dale Hunter said today he was going to move Alex Ovechkin to the half-boards tomorrow and keep defenseman at the point positions.
The Philadelphia Flyers come to town tomorrow in game three of the Caps five game homestand and another huge game for the Capitals. The Caps are one point behind the Winnipeg Jets, who have the weekend off, for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Caps also have two games in hand on the Jets.
