WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - Two Prince George’s County firefighters are still hospitalized, after being injured along with 5 others while battling a Riverdale house fire Friday evening.
22-year-old Kevin O’Toole suffered serious burns and will undergo the first of many potential skin-grafts Monday, and 21-year-old Ethan Sorrell remains on a ventilator. Sorrell, who suffered burns to his airway, is said to currently be communicating by writing notes to family and doctors.
High twisting winds elevated the danger level for the 7 firefighters that entered the home, and a back-draft caused by a gust of wind blasting through an open window or door in the rear of the home caused the serious injuries.
Injuries suffered by other crew members include broken ribs and burns to the face.
