WASHINGTON (CBSDC) DMV’ers will finally have something to cheer about at the Verizon Center.
That’s because USA Basketball announced on Friday that the men’s National Team will train and play an exhibition game in D.C. in preparation for the 2012 Olympics in London.
Between July 13-15 Team USA will train in Washington along with the women’s team, and on July 16th a double-header between USA and Brazil will take place at the Verizon Center.
USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo has invited 20 NBA players to try out for the team. Those left over from the 2008 gold medal team are Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and Dwight Howard. Newcomers to the Olympic team trying out are Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, Tyson Chandler, Andre Iguodala, Rudy Gay, Lamar Odom, Chauncey Billups and Eric Gordon.
Tickets to the game will be available at a later date.
