The Foamposite Galaxy, listed at $220, has caused similar reaction throughout the country, and in some places with much more dangerous results. Thursday evening, riot police were deployed to Florida Mall in Orlando to control a crowd of upwards to 3,000 people. At one point a riot broke out and police had to set off tear gas to contain the droves of shoe lovers.
Nike has issued an exclusive release of its latest model, which is driving the price up online; some pairs going for thousands. One pair in particular, said to be worn by Jordan Brand General Manager at the Sole Collector x Penny Hardaway event in Las Vegas is listed on EBay starting at $60,100.
The store’s manager is said to be making an announcement to the crowd shortly but its corporate office has asked the police to completely take control of the situation.
The massive, increasingly hysterical crowd seems to be under control for the time being, but with one man detained already for disorderly conduct, let’s hope that boiling point doesn’t spill over to everyone who camped out for the shoe that it causing a fever pitch.
Kevin Patrick will keep us abreast of the situation as news of the mounting crowd breaks.
