WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – A national restaurant and chef award foundation has included multiple D.C. semi-finalist selections as it whittles down it’s final list.
Of the 424 James Beard Award semifinalists out of more than 57,000 online entries from across the country, here are three from the D.M.V. who are still in the running:
Fiola – Best New Restaurant
Fiola of Penn Quarter, was also ranked 8th in the Washingtonian’s 100 Very Best Restaurants of 2012. Chef Fabio Trabocchi owns and runs the modern, upscale Trattoria, serving fresh Italian cuisine from daily changing lunch and dinner menus.

Marcel’s – Outstanding Restaurant
The French and Flemish Marcel’s, ranked 7th in Washingtonian’s 100 Best Restaurants of 2011, was opened by Chef Robert Wiedmaier in 1999. A hunter in his spare time, Wiedmaier practices classic, whole animal butchery. “If you’re going to kill a rabbit, don’t strip out its loins and toss the rest. Use all of it!,” says the Chef.
